A surprise!

Not just one book, but two today. The other came in the mail (with a signed coaster!) from a favorite mystery author. A nice surprise.

Another book

I was going over my wish list of books and searching for new ones to add to it when I found this:

It's a November release, but I figured I'd check out a nearby Borders because they seem to get things in pretty fast. It was there! Can't wait to read the stories.

Second Sweat Check-in

I don't feel like I have a strong start on this round of Sweat. Just today I finished with revisions on that short story and am about to continue with the new stuff. No idea how many words since most of what I've done is cut. I'll have a better idea of word count when I start on the new stuff. I'm also leaning toward starting that romantic suspense.

1st Check-in

These last few days have flown by! I didn't feel ready to check in with Sven today, as I had little to report, but once I did I felt better and managed some more writing after that. It's the accountability thing that I love so much.

Most of my actual words got written earlier today and this evening. Monday and Tuesday were spent getting my head back in a short story that I'd written awhile back. I've always liked the story but felt I could expand it and make it even better. It was previously 959 words and I've cut and added some, fixed some problems that were already there. Total will end up at 5,000 words at least. I'm looking at a goal of around 1,000 words a day.

I bought two new books today. My treat and a little inspiration. The books are, A Very Merry Christmas and Servant: The Awakening.

Sweating with Sven

Day 1

The elements are working with me this morning. It's dark as night and the rain is coming down like crazy. Just the right atmosphere. Love it! Of course, it's welcome to let up once I finish my pages and head out to run my errands.

Set to Sweat!

I took some time to clean the desk off. Looks much better when I can actually see it. Writing projects are lined up, and I can't wait to get started tomorrow. I'm thinking about starting with the romantic suspense I've been wanting to write since on our way home from Galveston this past summer. Of course, by tomorrow morning, I might change my mind and decide to work on a shorter piece.

We picked out Halloween costumes yesterday. The youngest did anyway. He's going to be a zombie. The costume is pretty cool. The oldest insists on a certain costume that I can't find anywhere in stores. He informed me that we could get the one he wants on ebay, but shipping was more than the costume itself! I don't think so. So, I searched online and found the same costume at a different site for a somewhat cheaper price. Haven't decided if I'm gonna cave on that one or not. I figured he'd be happy with the Slipknot (one of his favorite bands) masks and costume I found at this one store, but he wasn't interested.

We already got two big bags of Halloween candy, too. If I could stay out of the Twix, we might have some left for trick-or-treaters.

Books, A Writing Challenge & More

From the previous post, the books I got for BAFAB are A Streetcar Named Expire by Mary Daheim (for my mom) and a Sophie Kinsella book for my BFF but she'd already read it so I went with something else. The Mary Daheim book looks like it'd be good. I'll probably check out some of her others for myself.

As for the writing challenge, I signed up for the second round of Sweat70. Details at the seventy days of sweat site. I have four projects I'll be working on.

Tomorrow, the kids are off from school (yay!) and we're going to the State Fair. Haven't been in years and I can't wait to see the Marine Band. Other than the food and exhibits, that's my favorite part. There's a chance of rain so I'm hoping it stays dry at least while we're out.

Buying Books

I found this at Alison Kent's blog yesterday, loved the idea and thought I'd participate. It's Buy A Friend A Book week. Check out the info on their site.

The two people I have in mind to receive a book are my mom and my best friend from high school. Mom should be easy. Not sure what to get my BFF yet. Shopping for books and giving just because...fun! I'll let you know what I purchased later.
