BFS Challenge

I think I did this last year, but never accomplished any of the goals (whatever those goals were since I can't find that list). At any rate, I'm participating again in the Big, Fun, Scary Challenge that Nanowrimo is doing.

My BFS goal list for 2008:

*Finish various writing projects (one novel, two novellas, book of poetry) and submit them. Continue to write more.
*Read more often to narrow down my TBR pile.
*See Brooks & Dunn in concert (and hopefully meet them)
*Visit New York and Tennessee
*Run/walk a 5K
*Donate to charity
*Go skiing in Colorado
*Take a painting class
*Go ice skating
*Take horseback riding lessons

Some of these are the same as my life list, but a few new ones, too.

Here's some of the fudge and strawberry bread I made (before it all disappeared). Most of the fudge went to school with the oldest. Out of the 16 loaves of strawberry bread, we managed to keep and eat one for ourselves while the rest of it went to other people. I'm done with holiday cooking! Well, other than what we'll have for Christmas dinner.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I made out all of my Christmas cards yesterday and mailed them off this morning. All 10 of them. Whew! One less thing to worry about. I did forget to get my dad a birthday card, which is today, so I did the next best thing and called him at work to wish him a happy birthday.

A recipe

Here's the recipe for the strawberry bread that I mentioned in yesterday's post. My m-i-l gave me the recipe years ago.

Strawberry bread

3 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbs. cinammon
4 eggs - well beaten
1 1/2 cups nuts (I use pecan pieces)
1 tsp. salt
2 cups sugar
1 10 oz. package frozen strawberries, thawed
1 1/4 cup Wesson oil

Mix dry ingredients, then pour in 'wet' ingredients. Mix all together. Makes 8-9 mini loaves. 350 for 35-40 minutes.

Last movie watched: Bicentennial Man
What I'm listening to: Brooks & Dunn - The Greatest Hits Collection II
What I'm reading: Gods in Alabama by Joshilyn Jackson

Twelve days of Christmas

On the twelfth day (okay, so I'm late with this post) of Christams the holiday season gave to me...

the urge to crawl into bed, covers up over my head, and stay there until the first of the new year. I guess asking to stay there until spring is too much? Don't mind me, this time of year has that effect on me. The weather is too cold, and the shopping. Blah! Went out yesterday, spent way too much and still forgot the two main things I went out for. While I was out, I ran into another mom I know from my youngest son's school. I must've looked about how I felt because when we met up at the end of an aisle, shopping carts filled to the top, she said, "I know, it's never ending."

At least I only need a few more things. I guess I should be thankful that I've managed that much. It still leaves me time to...bake. Yeah, I dislike cooking, too, but my family seems to have this weird habit of needing to eat every day. For holiday treats I'll be doing fudge and strawberry bread. I've only done the fudge twice, and the strawberry bread every year for the last several years. Both are big hits. Fun to eat, not so much fun to bake. Just takes so much time. Time that I could be doing other things. Like hibernating 'til spring. I mean...writing.
