Hearts

I bought Tex Appeal today. Have been waiting for this one.
Photobucket

Yummy cover! Wouldn't this be a great Valentine's gift for a book lover you know? I can't wait to dive into the three stories included.

A video

My favorite feel good song of the moment is below. And maybe I'm slow, but I just saw this video for the first time the other day and absolutely fell in love with it. Alison Krauss is beautiful. And Robert Plant, well, what can I say? The man still has it all. They sound great together.

Candy...or a book?

How 'bout both? I went to the bookstore the other day to get Stephen King's new one, Duma Key. While I was browsing other books, I found The Candy Shop War by Brandon Mull. Loved the cover and the blurb, so I instantly wanted it for the youngest and thought it'd make a great Valentine's gift. It's better than candy, which I'm sure he'll get plenty of anyway. Well, I couldn't wait 'til Valentine's Day to give it to him, so we started reading it the other night. It's good so far. We've only read up to chapter 2, and will continue tonight. I plan to check out the author's Fablehaven series after this.

Also while there, I noticed a table with Valentine gifts for writers. How cool is this quill and ink love letters set?
V-day gift

I'm not a flowers and chocolates kinda girl. Give me books, gift cards to get books, writing tools. Okay, jewelry and stuffed animals work, too.

Organized

I think I finally got tired of trying to write around all the clutter that has consumed the desk lately so, today, I threw away and put up anything that wasn't relevant to my wip. It looks much better and I feel better. Even found the perfect spot to put up the sexy cowboy calendar that I bought myself last month. Ah, inspiration!

Treasures

I've probably said it before, but I'll say it again. I love it when I find something new and get so into it that it's almost all I know. All I care to know. It's like finding a rare treasure. Recently, I purchased Nikki Sixx's book The Heroin Diaries. I'm all over the place when it comes to my reading. If it interests me, I'll read it.

In Nikki's book, he shares the diary entries from the year he spiraled down a deep, dark hole of drug addiction. At the time, Motley Crue was at the height of their career, but no amount of fame and fortune mattered. As out of control as everything was, Nikki managed (surprisingly enough) to document what was going on, from the band, to the music industry, to his own demons, giving readers an inside view of the lifestyle.

Accompanying the diary entries is commentary from the people who were there at the time--band members, management, friends, family. Lost lyrics, drawings, photographs can also be found throughout.

Poignant, honest, disturbing. This is one book I won't ever forget.

I realize now why Nikki was always my favorite band member--and it has nothing to do with the fact that I thought he was the best looking. He's a creative soul who happened to get lost along the way. To pull himself up out of that darkness and turn it around for something good (his side project Sixx: AM, clothing line, and work for troubled youth) is truly admirable. I'm glad to have been able to read his story in his own words.

Happy New Year!

For the first day of the new year, I'm not doing much. I've chosen a book from my TBR pile and plan to relax with that, as well as watch one of the movies we received as Christmas gifts. All in front of a roaring fire.

Here's to a new year. To lots of books, and lots of writing.
