Black Velvet

...or rather, red velvet. As in the red velvet cupcakes that I made today. Happy Valentine's Day!

I'd never had red velvet anything before, and these turned out really yummy.

My first finished piece - a ruffled skinny scarf! The color is cherry chip. One of my favorites.

I'm pretty proud of it, and glad to be finished so I can make something else. I still have that blue purse to finish, but am finding so many other cool things to try. I also now know why one gal in a video tutorial for making hearts or flowers (can't remember which one) was using one of those comfort grips on her hook. There was so much repetition in this scarf, basically one long chain and over 400 double crochets (super easy to do, btw), my thumb actually had an indention where I was holding the hook too hard.

Fun stuff!

Cats & Crochet

Some new pics of Mia and Dee.

Yeah. Um, I don't know. This was supposed to be a heart but didn't turn out that way. I tried the picot edging, wasn't sure where to stop so I ended up doing it all over. Sort of reminds me of a butterfly.

My current work in progress.

And some favorite yarn colors - cherry chip and earth & sky

Wild World

I was saddened to learn of Capt. Phil Harris' passing this morning. I love The Deadliest Catch and he was always my favorite.

Fun stuff

I tried this crochet heart last night from a video I found at this site. Actually, the picture is the third one I made. The first two I gave to each of my boys who seemed appreciative, and none too worried about Mom's lack of crocheting skill. This one's not too bad I guess. I want to learn the picot edging.

The granny square was one of the first things I tried when learning crochet. My first attempt looked like a lopsided heart and the next a circle. It looks more like a square now, right? I think I'm getting the hang of it.
